Intelligent, deconstructive, dub-conscious, beat driven, electro-acoustic productions. Vintage NYC feel, unique vocals, synth leads & melody. Top lines that ooze style, sleazey glitched out percussive hip-hop and electronics...... Brooklyn-based beat junkie Kotchy is a producer, singer, drummer, songwriter, multiinstrumentalist. With sold out 12”s and 7”s, an EP with Shunda K of Yo! Majesty, remixes for Tricky and Empire Of The Sun under his belt and Fischerspooner up next, Kotchy has been warming up for his debut long player “89”. Look out for the new "I’d Have to be High" EP and his live show in the meantime. Kotchy’s style is impossible to pigeon hole, top drawer production & sensational instrumental & visual work plus his own unique style of vocal....a hushed out, rough-yet-delicate affair that immediately attracts the ear. A drummer by trade, his percussive roots shine throughout his music. Electronics, synths, vocals, samples, grooves and beats reminiscent of J Dilla and Pharell, all blended in with the funk of Prince and Beck and littered with melody and colour. Bass, beats, buzz & crackle; A tapestry of what’s inside Kotchy’s head. A true artist and one that has only recently embarked on a solo career path, Kotchy’s song writing is highly commendable, production blockbusting, and there is plenty more to come. If you've been lucky enough to see Kotchy's live set or him performing in the past with NY revered bands The Epochs and Violet (w/members of Fischerspooner / Rufus Wainwright / Joan As Police Woman / Polyphonic Spree) then more than likely you'll already have taken note!

Kotchy plays and records every element live when making his tracks so the live the experience is breathtaking. He takes a stripped down version of his studio out in a backpack, slick vocals and heavy beats and moves effortlessly between live the mic, drums triggers and keyboard, laptop and various percussion. The show's groove, beats, bass, hooks and Kotchy's brilliant reworked mashups of classics vocals like Streisand & Joe Cocker or Springsteen & Fleetwood Mac thrown in for good measure, is a guaranteed crowd mover.

Kotchy's co-labs and remixes have been many of late. Co-labs with Rusko, Drums of Death, Starkey (Planet Mu), Reso, Benni E and his "Le Passion, Yo!" (EP) with Yo! Majesty's Shunda K (Domino). Remixes for Tricky, Empire Of The Sun, Wiley and now Fischerspooner. Attracted remixes as diverse as Rusko's Skwee Mix, The Chap, Hrdvsion, Drums Of Death, Starkey, Reso, The Silent Jeff, Eclectic Method and more including 100s of summisions from fans via the infamous Palmsout blog. Kotchy’s style leans to many yet is impossible to pigeon hole. With more on the way, he’s primed for the release of his debut long player "89” and EP "I'd Have To Be High."

PRESS:

THE GUARDIAN: NEW BAND OF THE DAY: Kotchy describes what he does on his MySpace as “experimental hip-hop pop” and although he doesn’t particularly sound like avant-disco doyen Arthur Russell, his music will appeal to fans of same. He’s a would-be R&B auteur like Pharrell with the playful approach of a Prince or Beck, using a blend of electronic and acoustic instruments to bring an intelligent, deconstructive, dub-conscious focus to dance music. He reminds us that Andre 3000 of OutKast is a big fan of Squarepusher and his songs have the sticky, murky feel of current NY disco faves Hercules and Love Affair.”

INDEPENDANT: “On the New York fringes dance music is diversifying, Brooklyn Hipster Kotchy’s blend of Dance, Hip- Hop and Rock should draw comparisons to Pharrell ”

XLR8R: An truley impressive set of styles....covering R&B, soul, slick Hip-Hop, electonic. Get your Dance on!

DJ MAG "one of the best producers around... a unique sound!"

ARTROCKER: Aimed at the Dancefloor, it’s Prince-y and Beck-ish, and we’ll be there dancing!

MIXMAG: "Club-savvy Timberlake-like soul pop.... serious remixers...finds the midpoint between Timbaland and T2... amazing mutant pop!.....HUGE"

RCRDLBL: A spry looking dude absolutely slaying his jazz kit....That dude ‘s Kotchy, he’s crafting weird bedroom house music that sounds like the Neptunes playing garage music (gehr-age, not the MC5 kind) with Flying Lotus: chilly Rhodes, falsettos, obscure noise shards, reedy beats, etc. psychedelic hip-hop songs that sound like Battles, if Battles weren’t serious dudes with collard shirts and mortgages who actually had some juvenile fun....

CMJ: Kotchy’s music oozes decadence. It sounds like the after-club haze of a psychedelic love-in house party, reminiscent of Prince at his gloriously sleaziest. Kotchy eases through the song, with the kind of velvet crooning that Pharrell exploits on a regular basis. Glamorous and seductive, yet still upbeat and inspiring, this would be an excellent addition to any house party soundtrack.
